If I want to leave for the summer, do I have to reapply?
top Not necessarily. You can reserve your apartment by going on Daniell Heights’ half-rent plan. Contact the Apartment Office for details.


Is extra storage available?
top A padlocked, seventy-two-cubic foot storage cubical is provided for your apartment, located in your building. For your convenience, the apartment door key opens the padlock. Additional storage facilities are available for rent in Houghton.


Is there a community organization I can join?
top The Daniell Heights Residents Council (DHRC) is responsible for organizing all community activities and representing the community’s interests. As a resident, you are automatically a member; however, participation is voluntary.


May I have a pet?
top You may keep fish, parakeets, canaries, finches, and birds of smaller size, hamsters, gerbils, and mice. Total fish tank capacity should not exceed fifty-five gallons. However, to protect your neighbors from unsanitary grounds, bites, allergies, and noise, you may not keep dogs, cats, or any animal not listed above.


May I have guests?
top Of course you may. Notify the Daniell Heights Office if your guest needs a visitor parking permit. The office needs to be notified of guests who stay longer than two weeks.


What communication services are available?
top Michigan Tech’s Telecommunication Customer Service (TELCOM) provides telephone service, cable television, and Internet access. Contact the TELCOM office for details.


What do I do when I’m ready to leave?
top You are required to give us a thirty (30) day notice if it is at the end of the term, and a sixty (60) day notice if it is in the middle of the term.


When I move in, will my apartment be clean?
top Absolutely. We maintain high standards of cleanliness.


When may I move in?
top After you apply for an apartment, you’ll be placed on a waiting list. As apartments become vacant, they are assigned on a first-come, first served basis, so apply early. Priority is given to faculty and families (married individuals or married individuals with children).
Most apartments are assigned at the beginning and end of each academic semester. The Daniell Heights Office will let you know when your apartment is ready. Generally, the fall semester has the longest waiting list.


Where can I store my bike?
top Covered bicycle racks are located throughout the neighborhood. Be sure to bring your own lock for security.


Where do I park my car?
top Each apartment has one parking space reserved outside its building. Parking for additional vehicles is also available on a very limited basis. You should contact the Apartments Office for availability information if you’d like to keep more than one vehicle or a trailer.


Who can live in Daniell Heights?
top Students, who are 21 or senior status, and faculty of Michigan Tech and their families. The majority of buildings are set aside for single individuals and families. However, some are also reserved exclusively for single student groups (those who do not meet the age or class status requirement).
Students of Daniell Heights are expected to be in good academic standing. Undergraduate students are expect to be enrolled at Michigan Tech and carrying a minimum of twelve credits a term. Graduate students must be enrolled and working toward a degree.


Will I have to pay a deposit?
top A $99.00 refundable cleaning deposit plus the first month’s rent is required prior to move in.
