Bingo for Safehouse
Time: Saturday, October 18 2008 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Location: Wads Annex
Description: One of the largest costs for houses doing Safehouse is buying candy that will either be handed out by “trick-or-treaters” or that is available at the end of a “spooky” house. So, for the last few years IRHC has given away candy to houses who participate in Safehouse. Any registered house can show up to Bingo for Safehouse, play some bingo for a couple hours, and win lots of candy! Any house that shows up to Bingo for Safehouse will walk away with some candy... but those that are good at bingo will walk away with a lot more!
Results: Bingo for Safehouse was a HUGE success! The Wads Annex was filled from wall to wall with residents trying to win candy for their respective houses. We had about 30 different houses bring residents on down, which added up to over 150 students who played some Bingo. A total of 150 bags of candy was given out by the end of the night (a last minute run to buy 50 more bags of candy was done at the start of the game). Every house walked out with at least 2 bags of candy, with Mama's Boys walking away with the most (a total of 30 bags).
WHSA Blood Drive
Time: Wednesday, October 22 2008 12:00 pm - 4:45 pm
Location: Wads Annex
Description: Join IRHC and WHSA in the first of our three "Week of Halloween" events with all the hall councils. Bring your house down to donate blood to some thirsty vampires!
Results: Thank you to those who came down to donate blood on October 22nd. Red Cross really appreciated the turn out of residents who showed up throughout the day. There were 175 residents who tried to give blood, with 134 pints of blood that was actually collected.
Safehouse Tour Guide Meeting
Time: Wednesday, October 22 2008 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Location: Wads G17/19W
Description: This is a mandatory Safehouse meeting for all participating houses to send both tour guides to. Topics include the finalized tour routes, safety issues, and emergency plans. If a designated tour guide cannot make it, a replacement may be sent. Any absent houses will be eliminated from the judging of Safehouse.
Results: Thank you to those tour guides who decided to give excellent tours to our guests from the community on October 25th. We had approximately 90 tour guides who helped IRHC on this date.
Safehouse
Time: Saturday, October 25 2008 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Location: Residence Halls
Description: Safehouse is an annual event where houses in all three residence halls decorate their hallways in a spooky or fun manner, and members from the local community can wander through our halls and enjoy a short 'Halloween tour' of Michigan Tech. This is the twentieth year of Safehouse, and we hope that more houses then ever participate in this fun competitive event! Winning houses will be announced during the Costume Party in November and will win trophies.
Results: First off, thank you to everyone who participated in Michigan Tech's 21st annual Safehouse. Everyone did an excellent job! We had 50 of the 58 houses in the residence hall decorate for either a younger kid age group or an older kid age group. There was an estimated 350 younger kids who traveled through the houses and about 500 older kids who took a "haunted house" tour (approximately 850+ people from the community toured through the residence halls on October 25th). Winners were announced at the DHHC Costume Party and are listed under this event. Again, a huge thank you to all of you who made Safehouse a success, congratulations to those who won, and good luck next year!
MHA Pumpkin Carving Competition

Pumpkins will be displayed in the dining hall the next day and residents will get a chance to vote on the best carved pumpkin. Prizes will be awarded to winners.
Results: Many students showed up to carve a pumpkin on October 28th. Just about all 100 pumpkins had a new face by the end of the night! Lots of pumpkin pie was eaten and everyone had a good time.
