Instead of checking our website daily to find out what new things are happening in the world of IRHC, we have several options for you to automatically receive updates. Commonly known as feeds, this method of downloading short descriptive updates can either be run through your browser or in a web aggregator. Pop Tab Wars Results

Over 260,000 tabs were collected during IRHC's third annual pop tab wars, which weighs over 175 pounds. This is a lot of pop tabs. About 17 houses participated, and a clear winner emerged: La Maison. You can view the results in a few different formats below...

charity:water Movie Fundraiser

charity:water is a nonprofit organization stimulating greater global awareness about extreme poverty, educating the public, and provoking compassionate and intelligent giving. Most notable work has been drilling new wells in Africa for clean:water. IRHC decided to work with the African Student Organization and Film Board to show a movie during African Week in order to raise money and awareness. The movie "Blood Diamond" was chosen by the three groups and seemed to help spread awareness of the condition in Africa. The event had 80 people show up to purchase raffle tickets and concessions to raise the $130. Before the movie started a 4 minute video about charity:water was shown to shed light on the conditions of people living in extreme poverty and the organizations work to bring clean and safe drinking water.

Flower Fundraiser raises over Five Hundred

Once an annual event, the Inter-Residence Hall Council has not held the Flower Fundraiser since the spring of 2005. While it was profitable and enjoyed by the residents, approximately five sales were made during that year, and IRHC quickly decided to drop the event. However, members wanted to bring it back as part of a general service events push and saw surprising success. Over 198 total sales were made, raising $555 dollars for the Barbara-Kettle Gundlach Shelter in Chassell. These sales included anything from two dozen roses to a lucky individual to many single carnations being sent to dear friends. All together, 211 roses and 127 carnations will be sent out on Thursday, February 14 (Valentine's Day), so keep your eye out to see if you received one!

Penny Wars Results!

We apologize for the lateness in reporting Penny Wars Results. The results have been available for about a week on the "Penny Wars" flash website, but the winners definitely deserve recognition here! The winners are decided by dividing the total positive points by the number of residents in the hall.

1st Place -- Bastille I with $72.83 positive points, or $3.17 per resident
2nd Place -- Strange Crew with $39.89 positive points, or $1.14 per resident
3rd Place -- Atlantis with $23.69 positive points, or $0.72 per resident
4th Place -- I-House with $13.71 positive points, or $0.43 per resident
5th Place -- Citadel with $14.56 positive points, or $0.40 per resident
6th Place -- Toll House I with $6.65 positive points, or $0.25 per resident

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to everyone who contributed! Over $900 was raised for charity this year! Bastille I will be deciding which local charity the money goes to, and will have a pizza party next semester

Penny Wars Update

The first wild card has been used! Strange Crew in McNair used the Revenge of the Jedi card to command an impressive lead over the other halls. There's only one more day to use wild cards and three more days of Penny Wars, and the competition is heating up fast. We will be holding a mass hair cutting during Spring Fling where anyone can donate their hair, regardless of the length, to Wigs for Kids. To register for the cutting, please sign up at housing.mtu.edu/irhc/hair.html. Registered participants will receive free stuff throughout the year as a thank you for their participation.
