Student Life Positions Available
Michigan Technological University invites nominations and applications for the position of Coordinator for African American Outreach and Assistant Director of Student Activities, Greek Life and Leadership. Individuals that are seeking an opportunity to be innovators, who are goal-oriented and motivated, and most importantly student centered are encouraged to apply.
Coordinator for African American Outreach
The coordinator reports to the Director of Multicultural Affairs and provides leadership and innovative programs related to the recruitment, retention, and graduation of African American and other underrepresented students. The coordinator collaborates extensively with the Native American and Hispanic/Latino (a) Outreach Coordinators and other offices.
The successful candidate for this position will:
- Design, develop, implement, monitor, and assess African American programming and events that bring together students and lead to academic success.
- Provide leadership and serve as an advocate for underrepresented students and understand institutional policies in order to help meet the needs of individual students.
- Be a leader in the field, actively engage in professional organizations, and implement best practices in the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students.
- Conduct high school, community college, and university visits and presentations in targeted areas to assist in the recruitment of underrepresented students.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures, publications, web pages, etc., to promote diversity at Michigan Tech.
- Collaborate with the Affirmative Programs, Institutional Diversity, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs to help increase the presence and retention of minority faculty and staff.
Assistant Director for Student Activities, Greek Life and Leadership.
The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Student Activities and provides leadership for the development, administration and assessment of Michigan Tech’s Greek Life and Leadership programs.
The successful candidate for this position will:
- Design, coordinate, implement, monitor, and assess programs that enhance academics and embrace development of the University’s robust Greek Life organizations and leadership development initiatives.
- Provide leadership and coordination for the establishment and coordination of broad based University wide student leadership programs and services including trainings, workshops, conferences, resources, and new initiatives congruent with the University mission.
- Lead all processes related to Greek organizations, including organization recognition, chapter advising, new/active membership education, programming, publications, campus and community partnerships, risk management, and serving as a liaison with national offices.
- Assist in the planning and coordination of University traditions such as Keweenaw Day, Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Spring Fling.
- Serve as an advocate for students; understand institutional policies in order to help meet the needs of individual students.
- Be a leader in the field, actively engage in professional organizations, and implement best practices in Greek life and leadership.
